Visions for Vibrant City Centres

Bringing a City Centre Back to Life: pinkful’s Vision for Bad Neustadt

What does it take to bring real life back into a city?

That question runs through everything I do as an interior architect. Right now, it’s especially present in my thoughts about Bad Neustadt – the place I grew up. A place where many spaces are quiet, but full of potential.

Real change starts with what’s already there

City centres don’t need to be reinvented – they need to be reimagined.

Because what already exists holds value.

Bad Neustadt’s architecture carries layers of history, structure and soul. Its future doesn’t lie in erasing the old, but in reactivating it. With temporary ideas that have room to grow. With creative interim uses that invite people back in.

The Fronhof: a space waiting to breathe

Once a grey, closed-off space – the Fronhof could become something completely different.

It doesn’t need to be over-designed. It just needs care.

It could start quietly: a green courtyard space with birds, sunlight, stories. A few signs telling of its past. Maybe guided tours by locals. Then, step by step: small workshops, a florist, a stand selling local spirits and sausages. A rehearsal room in the basement. A space that grows organically and reflects real needs.

Identity brings movement

Authentic culture doesn’t come from top-down planning. It emerges when people are invited to co-create. When cities are shaped through participation. That’s when they become truly attractive – not just socially, but economically. Because identity attracts people. And people make places come alive.

pinkful designs from within

At pinkful, we always start with what’s already there. We believe in transformation through design – and in the quiet strength of the existing. There’s so much potential in every empty space.

Our vision for Bad Neustadt isn’t a fixed plan. It’s an open invitation:To rethink. To collaborate. To create something honest and alive.

A tree on the main square. A cold-water foot bath. A jazz concert on the Luitpoldhügel. Or simply a space that stays open – for what’s next. For people. For Bad Neustadt.
